Airport screening ineffective: GAO
A GAO report says airport screeners are still failing to detect weapons, and there’s no evidence to suggest the TSA is effective in securing air travel against threats, according to AP.
``TSA currently collects little information regarding screener performance in detecting threat objects,’’ according to the General Accounting Office report, obtained by The Associated Press.[...]
House aviation subcommittee chairman John Mica, a Florida Republican, requested the report. He said Wednesday he was ``very depressed’’ after reading it.

As part of the GAO’s investigation, undercover investigators tested airport security by trying to sneak weapons past screeners at airports.
Although the section of the report dealing with the results of the tests was classified, Mica said the investigation revealed that weapons were still getting past screeners.
