Victorian bill bans false information, applies overseas

Proposed Victorian stalking leglsiation would impose a ten year sentence on those caught posting false information or impersonating someone else on the internet. The Attorney General says the law would apply overseas if the victim is Victorian.

Stalking a person on the internet or via email, impersonating another person in cyberspace or posting false information about them on the web will all be prohibited. Attorney General Rob Hulls reintroduced cyberstalking legislation
into parliament today after the state election ended debate on the bill last year. Mr Hulls said the new laws would apply to people living interstate or overseas if they were caught stalking a person in Victoria. – AAP, Ten years for ‘cyberstalkers’.
