reuters: British police may destroy Diana bodyguard's book

British police are reportedly considering legal action to destroy copies of a book written by Princess Diana’s former bodyguard.

Ken Wharfe’s tell-all book “Diana: Closely Guarded Secret”—which hit bookshops this week to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the princess’s death—is reported to have distressed members of the royal family including Diana’s sons, princes William and Harry.

Scotland Yard lawyers are looking into the possibility of suing Wharfe, an ex-detective, on the ground that he may have revealed operational police details that could compromise future royal protection operations, the paper said.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard would not comment on possible legal moves, but did not deny the report.

In the case of Wharfe’s book, the Evening Standard said police lawyers were trying to get permission to pulp all existing copies and donate profits already made to charity. The book has already been serialized in a Sunday newspaper.
